Blackwattle Distilling Co Australian Grain Vodka
This is made on a base of neutral wheat spirit, as with most vodkas. The big difference here is that Blackwattle has added native wattleseed for a uniquely Australian twist on the classic Eastern European style. Clean and crisp on the nose with no unpleasant ethanol burn or distracting funkiness, it’s exactly what you want to see from a good vodka. The wattleseed is hard to perceive on the nose, but there’s a nice grapefruit-peel brightness, as is common in high quality, wheat-based vodkas. But on the palate, the classic nutty profile of wattleseed is evident, which, although subtle, adds a lovely bit of Aussie complexity to an otherwise straightforward vodka. Excellent grip through the finish and a slight lingering funk make this a great choice for a dirty martini. Overall a very well put together spirit and steal for the price.
