The Halliday Top 100 Wineries of 2025 celebrates the best producers in Australia right now.

Margaret River icon Vasse Felix has scaled great heights to land at the envied top spot. Both Virginia Willcock and Bart Molony have won major awards in the 2026 and 2025 Companions, as Winemaker of the Year and Viticulturist of the Year respectively. In 2025, too, its flagship wine Tom Cullity celebrates its 10th vintage, and the 2023 Heytesbury Chardonnay was named Chardonnay of the Year and White Wine of the Year in the 2026 Companion. We congratulate Vasse Felix on this monumental achievement. The result of decades of unwavering commitment.

Coming in at a close second is the Hunter Valley’s Brokenwood, which was also named Winery of the Year in the 2026 Companion

Beacon of the Yarra Valley, Oakridge, comes in at number three in the good company of other Yarra stalwarts, Mount Mary, Yarra Yering, Giant Steps and the D’Anna family juggernaut Hoddles Creek Estate. The balance of the top 25 is rounded out with glittering names, from Beechworth royalty Giaconda, to top McLaren Vale wineries including Yangarra Estate, Thistledown and Koomilya. Cult Barossa Valley producers The Standish Wine Co and Sami-Odi also feature alongside some of the best wineries in the Clare and Eden Valleys.

1. Vasse Felix

Margaret River, Western Australia

Vasse Felix is the foundational winery of today’s Margaret River – an intractable anchor point from when Tom Cullity first planted vines in 1967. Today, Vasse Felix is as influential as ever, if not more so. The 2023 Heytesbuty Chardonnay was the White Wine of the Year in the 2026 Companion, while Virginia Willcock was the Winemaker of the Year. That complements Vasse Felix’s Bart Molony being declared Viticulturist of the Year in the 2025 Companion. That’s quite a team, and it’s no new pairing, with the two working hand in glove since 2006. Their synergistic relationship is critical to Vasse Felix’s success, as is Paul Homes à Court’s faith in that compact, giving the talent freedom of expression. This year was also one to celebrate the release of the 10th Tom Cullity Cabernet Malbec. The first Tom Cullity, the 2013, was controversial on release, Virginia says, a wine seemingly too ephemeral for a marquee bottling of such an important estate, one that wouldn’t age. Or so many pundits said. They were unbowed, continuing the program, and that wine has sailed through, looking ever youthful. It says a lot about the Vasse Felix operation, from top to bottom, backing the material, backing the talent. Virginia is also a tireless advocate for the broader region and a mentor to many, openly sharing her knowledge. Vasse Felix delivers relative value across all the wines, from the everyday to the flagships, eschewing the growing trend of pinnacle bottlings being unattainable to most. When you factor in history, scarcity and excellence, they are more than reasonable. Vasse Felix is richly deserving of the number one spot, and on so many levels.
