The 45th annual National Wine Show will be on in Canberra from Tuesday, November 12 to Friday, November 15. This premier show, organised by the Royal National Capital Agricultural Society with the patronage of James Halliday AM, judges and promotes the country’s best wines. Entrants are required to qualify via one of 33 specified capital city and regional shows or special purpose competitions. Opportunities to enter online will conclude mid-October.
Each year, the show continues to present as the ‘best of the best’ on the Australian wine show calendar. The judging process will conclude with a presentation dinner on November 22 at the National Arboretum Canberra. The 20 judges are led by David Bicknell, chief winemaker at Oakridge Wines, who is returning for his second year as Chair of Judges.
In 2018, 1247 wines were judged from 224 exhibitors, resulting in the awarding of 785 medals (63 per cent of entries) and 21 trophies, including the prestigious Len Evans Memorial Trophy for Champion Wine of Show.
