Our Review
This is the venture of winemaker Hadyn Black and business partner Darcy Naunton. Their common interest in wine saw them take a great leap in '15, buying 1t of shiraz from the renowned Malakoff vineyard in the Pyrenees, with further vintages following. Hadyn and wife Lucy Black purchased a rundown vineyard in Great Western in late ’16, naming it Hounds Run after their hounds. Hadyn has an exceptional understanding of riesling, perhaps in part to his time spent at Best’s (see separate entry), and unsurprisingly, his Rupunzel Riesling is a standout of the portfolio. The Black & Ginger Wine Shed is a laid-back, eclectic hideaway for wine lovers and wanderers alike. The team invites guests to pull up a chair for a wine tasting, sink into a comfy lounge with a book, or challenge their mates to a board game over a glass of premium small-batch vino. Special events are held on the last Thursday and include board game, karaoke and movie nights as well as art workshops.
