Lauren Hansen is a clever cookie. She graduated as dux of her viticulture and oenology degree before landing at Balnaves of Coonawarra and subsequently Penley Estate. It was here where she forged a reputation for revolutionising the otherwise traditional styles of Coonawarra, breathing new life into the wines, while honouring the legacy of how they came to be. Bloomfield is Lauren’s hobby project, and the first vintage under this label coincided with her award as dux of the prestigious Len Evans Tutorial in '24. Lauren makes 3 wines under Bloomfield – grüner veltliner, petit verdot and mencía – each made with brightness and drinkability at the fore. -KATRINA BUTLER
