Grove Hill

South Australia | Adelaide Hills

Our Review

Horticulturist Charles Giles established the Grove Hill property in 1846 as an orchard and exotic plant nursery in a secluded valley near Norton Summit. The property has remained in the Giles family, Marguerite Giles and son Sam the current owners. Two sites were chosen for vines, the initial plantings made in the late 1970s and early ’80s replaced by close-planted, dry-grown vines in ’88. Chardonnay and pinot noir make up the main section on the valley floor, with a small section of pinot noir on a steep hillside block. Several historic buildings remain; the wines are matured in a large stone cellar. -JAMES HALLIDAY
