Hellyers Road Distillery Salted Caramel Cream Liqueur
This cream salted caramel liqueur from dairy-cum-whisky distillery Hellyers Road in Tasmania’s north does exactly what it says on the label; it’s creamy, sweet, and more than a little salty. On the nose, a boiled lolly confectionery note speaks more to milkbar-style caramel syrup than it does to the homemade kind, which is definitely nostaligic if not particularly refined. You can actually smell the cream, as well – it’s not just artificial dairy substitute. The palate is light and easy as a salty custard vibe carries through with great integration. The finish is light, without any cloying sweetness, and the salt, spirit and natural acidity of cream makes you want to go back for another sip. I wouldn’t mind a little more burnt sugar richness but, if you want a well-made cream liqueur for a great price, this is hard to pass up.
