Robbers Dog Rum

Robbers Dog rum is a molasses-based spirit, matured for two years in ex-bourbon barrels. Oak, tropical fruit and vanilla are all present on the nose, but there’s also an unfortunate spirit harshness there – something you’d hope not to see at 40% abv. There’s some nice molasses character through the palate, and the sweetness is certainly well controlled. But the finish tips into bitterness and I think, overall, this needs more time in the cask to pull together. Still, lovers of big, aggressive rums like Bundaberg will find plenty to like about this product.
