More than 9000 Australian wines were tasted for the 2021 Halliday Wine Companion guide.

Of those 9000, there are full tasting notes and ratings for 4063 wines, plus ratings, drink-to dates and prices for a further 4056.

From the thousands of wines tasted, 29 were rated 99 points and are among the finest in the country.

Only one wine has received 100 points.

As well as the six major awards, 16 varietal winners will be revealed.

The lowest-priced varietal winner is $31, and the highest-priced varietal winner is $700.

There will be 1165 winery reviews featured in the 2021 Halliday Wine Companion guide.

Of those 1165, there are 59 new wineries featuring for the first time.

Six of this year’s 10 dark horses – wineries achieving a five-star rating following a history of lesser ratings – come from Victoria.

Four of this year’s best value wineries come from South Australia.
